How much impact can an Award win have?

At the 2016 Awards, MK Gallery was the proud recipient of the Community Impact award for its close work within the local community. We caught up with Clare Wood, Head of Development and Communications, to find out what ‘impact’ the award had on the organisation.

“It has been fantastic to have the positive impact of MK Gallery's work recognised by our local business community. We get lots of positive reaction from the many individuals, families and community organisations that we work with, but to know that the local business community values MK Gallery was extremely heartening.”

Established in October 1999, MK Gallery prides itself on presenting free, changing exhibitions of world-class art, and the Gallery’s learning team conceives, commissions and delivers hundreds of creative learning activities for children and families each year. In fact, in 2016 they launched the first ‘Family in Residence’ scheme where a nominated family will be assigned an Associate Artist to work with, and then commission them to deliver a one off public event at the end of their three month residency.

The award win came at a time of immense change for the Gallery with the expansion plan in full swing as the organisation strives to become a world-class cultural, artistic and social centre with doubled exhibition spaces, facilities for cinema, performances and events, dedicated education and community resources and a new café bar and shop.

So how did the award benefit the Gallery? Clare continues, “It can at times be difficult to quantify the benefits of awards and accolades, but that is certainly not the case with the MK Business Achievement Awards. Our win has certainly raised the profile of MK Gallery within the local business community. This increased profile feels like the door has been opened to hundreds of new business relationships within Milton Keynes – something that is invaluable as we build partnerships to enable the forthcoming expansion.”
And Clare has some advice for businesses thinking of supporting the 2017 event, “I would encourage all businesses to support the MK Business Achievement Awards and wish everyone the very best of luck this year.”
